Not to be pessimistic in this thread, because this was something I truly was interested in. I agree with the idea of preserving the mountain versus investment. But we're also in a position that there needs to be some kind of return on our money right now. SOMEDAY when we move to the MRV, I'll probably consider MRG shares more seriously.

Will you and Bri maintain a room at the MRV house for wayward Alpinezoners?

Perhaps...

For a little while, I actually was considering that other motel KingM mentioned was for sale. Except Brian reminded me that running something like that means we'd get little time to enjoy the Valley ourselves. :(

We can make it a cooperative effort. I can cook. Brian can clean. And the wives can run the financial end or things. The kids can do snow removal. We should all have plenty of time to ski. ;-)

I'm sure Brian would LOVE to clean. In all seriousness, though, Brian's dad is to blame for this idea. Years ago, his friends considered selling their motel in the White Mountains and he thought it would be a good idea for us to run it with him. We should have done it....

Seems like you do it pretty easy by creating a ski dorm. Just find a place with a solid barn to update with insulation and bunks and some plumbing. Basically just a place for cheap bastards to crash. No need to provide food or much in the way of services. You'd have to deal with a lot of Marcs and college students, but it'd be minimal effort and pay for itself.

White Mountain Motel. They decided to keep it and still run it today, though they generally close for the month of February and go to Florida to get away.

I do like the idea of the ski dorm.... Hmmm.....

ETA: Looks like they now close the motel for the winter. Used to only be during the month of Feb. Think of the untapped! Nestled between Loon and Cannon, plus the snowmobile trails... ugh! What a waste!

ETAA: Sorry to hijack, Marge!
