Date(s) Hiked: 06/14/2007

Trails(s) Hiked:
  • Up: White Dot/Cascade Link/Red Spot/Pumpelly
  • Down: White Dot/White Cross
Total Distance: 4.6 miles round trip, elevation gain 1700'

Difficulty: Moderate (for me at least)

Conditions: Cloudy with sunny breaks, trails a bit muddy

Special Required Equipment: None

Trip Report: Made my first trip to Monadnock with my son today. With the clouds, the views weren't the best they could have been, but for the most part we didn't see anyone else...saw maybe 4 - 6 people at the summit. We heard about a few school groups but avoiding the White Dot/White Cross route by going up via the Red Dot trail seemed to do the trick.

Had a great time...realized that I was quite out of shape, though. Would like to head back again at some point this summer but I know that we were spoiled by the lack of crowds...

That is an AWESOME mountain. Now you know why it is the second most, if not the most, hiked mountain in the world.

When you get in shape, try the Pumpelly Trail from Dublin Pond to the summit. 10 miles RT and no crowds.

I'm hoping to my annual trek next month, typically just see a few people when I get there at 7:00 PM
