Thank you! Did that gondola move faster than the doubles? I see that it had an open bottom, could you get a snowboard on that? Does anyone here own one of those old cabins?
Much faster than the Summit Triple. Probably could get a snowboard on it, never thought of that before ir recall seeing one on them. Can't remember if snowboarding was allowed before the gondola accident that finished it off.

By the time I was old enough the Yankee Clipper was in.

The Standard and Canyon doubles did move right along though. The Summit Triple was always a snail. I loved the portal towers on the Standard.

Oh it ran much faster than those doubles also. Wasn't sure if he was talking about the chain drives or the regular doubles, so I compared to the triple. Anyway, I think it ran around 800 feet per min.

Got an hour and a half in in the rain this morning for closing day. When I hit the hill just after 9, the liftie who scanned me told me I was only 1 of 2 people currently on the hill (maybe there were 10 of us when I quit about 10:30)

Snow was actually skiing very well with a nice wet machine groomed surface, generally good coverage over 95% of the open acreage.

Felt like a closing day. That might be a wrap on my season too as I have things the next 3 weekends that would prevent me from getting some Superstar laps...20230423_090849.jpg

OK, so I didnt want to clog with new thread (Mod, title edit please?) but since this has been a fairly active one in past, I thought Id pass along some changes for 23-24 season.

Apparently there was an outside crew on Mtn this week cleaning some of the trees out as thats been a longstanding issue the Mtn has been behind trend on.

And on a big change front, there is a totally new (back to oldish) traffic flow pattern. Apparently some Vail master engineering at work. Gone is the longstanding drop off loop in front of Disco Bdlg. It is now a straight drive thru scenario where 4 lanes are created just as you pass the handicap parking. Theyve even added some paving for more surface area.
The Right most lane is a quick drop for skiers along curb...no stopping/standing allowed!!!
Second lane is a Pass Thru and 3rd/4th are for busses. All these lanes continue on thru into what was moover/shuttle parking area and you continue on thru to park or exit base area.
Previously this shuttle area was always blocked off by temp metal fencing which also created a pedestrian safe walking lane to some parking.
So gone are all the parking spots and ability to park with flashers on for short periods. It seems to be all about moving people thru.
There are now lines on ground for lanes but how this all works in winter with snow, people walking across the travel pattern and without tons of labor to tell people to keep moving, or slow down!!, who knows!
Its going to be a sh*itshow for a few seasons before it becomes the new norm or gets blown-up!

Que up the opening curbside scene from Airplane, "Listen Betty, dont start up with your white zone sh*t again"...

Ha I guess they count the vertical down into Wilmington. And the Mover buses are now a “lift”.

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
Maybe they finally set off Walt's atomic bomb? 😆

I was always a big Mouth Snow history buff as it is super fascinating. One of the old timers I get to work with at Alta was in the Mount Snow marketing department when it was owned by Walt. Fascinating stories! I'll try to post some here next time I get some new ones!

I checked the cams and they show nothing because they are terrible! Hope they bring summit back online, or do you need to bow to the empire and get the app?

Good to see they are making snow. Stratton (some of the best cams in the business) and Okemo (at least they have a decent summit cam) are making snow.

Short window, hope for all the above some of the piles hold until he next window, mid next week.

Saw the new main base area parking scheme in person last weekend. I think I get the concept behind it (more cars actively dropping off during the morning rush and afternoon ski school pick up times) in the lines and NOT backing traffic up far out into the parking lots and beyond, BUT going to need multiple crossing guards to ensure safe passage from the parking lots to the base area. Will be interesting to see if this ends up being a good idea or not???

Also looks like a couple of new shiny red Pisten Bully's out by mtn ops, a 400 Winch and a 600. Which means it will be the 1st season Mount Snow has had 2 winch cats in its fleet
