Mt. Snow, VT
Date Hiked: 10/08
Trails(s) Hiked: Nitro to Upper Iron Run to Long John to Nugget to Milky Way to Thanks, Walt to Cloud Nine
Total Distance: 6 miles?
Difficulty: Moderate
Conditions: Sunny, trails muddy in places
Special Required Equipment: None
I waited until just before noon to decide to hike because the holiday traffic was so bad. Nonetheless, I drove up to Mt. Snow and hiked up Carinthia, down into Sunbrook, and then to the summit - this was the quietest part of the mountain with the chairlift rides and downhill bikers in full swing. The views were excellent - Monadnock, Wachusett, Greylock, and points to the north. The summit was amazingly crowded with dingbats who would ride the chairlift and then only look at the easterly view - not walking the few extra hundred feet to see Greylock, Somerset Reservoir, etc. Their loss. The leaves are down on the summit, however lower Sunbrook and Carinthia are peak.
