I'm sure I'll catch a couple of local shows at the Stone Church.

Only bigger show I have tickets to is Widespread Panic in Boston in November.

I'm going to be in New Orleans in a few weeks for a convention.

Pearl Jam is the closing band the 1st night of the referenced above Voodoo Music Festival :)

A band I completely wanted to see back when I was in college, but never got the chance to. That's going to change in about 2 weeks! :) :) :)

I just recently bought 2nd row center seats to see Pat Metheny's new Unity Band at Amherst in March.

My favorite all time group it should be a great show as always. This band won Pat his 20th Grammy award earlier this year.

Silly name? Yes. Silly sci-fi artwork? Yes. Smart alecks? Almost certainly yes, based on the liner notes. Serious musicians? You better believe it. Evil Giraffes on Mars are a bit of a throwback to the sound of old-school fusion. Compositionally, they seem inspired by early Mahavishnu Orchestra: lots of Fender Rhodes, knotty unison lines, passionate soloing, and powerhouse Billy Cobham-style drumming. But with two saxes, no violin, and no bass (that's right, no bass), the sound ends up being quite a bit different. The tunes are nicely composed and arranged with plenty of room for soloing. The variety and pacing are nice, with some slower numbers breaking up the scorchers, but they've got a great sense of group dynamics within any given piece. Overall, Cydonia is a pretty impressive debut.

WHERE ? THE VENUE

The venue is an interesting part of this offering as well. The new festival will take place entirely at a new hotel: The Sullivan. The new hotel and conference center in Rock Hill, NY that bills itself as The "Sullivan County's Only Boutique Hotel". To our knowledge, that appears to be true. And even a passing glance at their web site one can tell that they spent some serious money putting this place together. www.The-Sullivan.com In fact, the Hoteliers spent about $3,000,000 on the campus this summer and it shows. The lobby, rooms, restaurants, bars and ballroom glisten and it still has that "new hotel smell". What a great new place for a great new blues festival! This is NOT your parent's or grand parents Catskills hotel. This is new, hip and chic. And the festival should attract a similar crowd.
