I know it was a busy weekend on the roadways, but I drove home today via 89-93 and saw a total of 9 state cops. I usually see maybe 2 or so, but I thought today was a little outrageous. Not even the end of the month for quotas. They could have caused accidents with people slamming on their brakes. Did anyone else see them all out there?

Ms RIDEr and I just got home from Littleton, NH and took back roads to 91 and didn't see any while in NH.
not many staties north of the bethleham barracks. occasionally a statie does hang out in littleton on 93 under the bridge before the commerce exit. most of the staties hang out between the notch and the MA boarder. i have seen as many as five or six before.

What'd you expect? It was a busy holiday weekend. To suggest that presence of a police car would be the cause of an accident seems silly to me. It's the people driving like idiots that need to slam on their brakes whenever they see a cop (even if they're not doing anything wrong) that are the cause of accidents...

Cops don't cause the accidents, idiots slamming on their brakes cause the accidents.

Unless I'm doing something illegal... I like having cops around...

Oh, give me a break. You know what causes accidents? Stupid drivers who feel the need to slam on their brakes every time they see a cop. It's this ridiculous paranoia that has somehow been ingraned in people. People slamming their brakes is a dead giveaway to a cop. Simply taking your foot off the gas is much more effective. For those of us on cruise control, kick it down a few notches.

The ones that really get me are the folks doing 55 mph, in traffic, in a 55 mph zone, who hit their brakes in the presence of a statie.

Last night there were two Boston Cops on 90 after the Watertown tolls heading in. I think they were transporting someone. Anyway, they were doing about 45 mph, and no one was passing them. Soooooo annoying. 1) they're out of jurisdiction 2) they're BELOW the speed limit. Firickin' GO!

You're right, it's amazing how many people don't realize a local cop, particularly one not in his town, can't pull you over on an interstate.

And I hate leaning on my horn at the morons who do crap like that for fear the statie might pull me over. Not like they could bust me for anything except maybe tailgaiting, but I just don't like getting pulled over. However, these idiot drivers need some sense knocked into them.

I have a friend who fits this stereotype to a T. We were coming home from some ski resort and I was doing 70 in a 65 or something like that, keeping the 5 mph difference. A statie is hiding by a bridge and my buddy sees the statie and goes "Oh, s---!". First of all, I'm driving MY truck and he's in the passenger seat. I never slowed down. I said "What?". He says, "There was a cop sitting right there." I proceeded to ignore him after that. Mind you, this is the same guy who travels nowhere without his radar detector and STILL slams his brakes every time he sees a cop.

Maybe I phrased it wrong. I just hit the o/d button and go right by that works a lot better.

Some people hit their brakes when they see a cop because they think something official is going on that may require them to slow down.... And i agree... Cause every year cops get killed by drivers that don't slow down when they are attending to something on the road..

If you give enough space to the car in front then you can adjust...

Probably because he's worried about "instant on" or LASER...

That's a good point. If you keep 2 or 3 seconds between you and the next vehicle, you should have plenty of time to fix problems. Of course the distance increases with speed. I've long been surprised this "standard" hasn't been promoted more.

The folks I'm refering to are the ones who slam the brakes when they see a speed trap. I would agree, especially for folks traveling in the right lane, slowing down isn't a bad thing, given that the cop is potentially standing on the edge of the highway. One the other side of that coin, the folks in the left lane don't need to slam their brakes because the cop already has someone pulled over, presumably in the right breakdown lane.

I understand the point, but I also think some common sense could come into play here.

Some people are just paranoid and tentative..
they see a cop car and don't think ticket... they think trouble - it's human nature....

I see your point... but it's no use getting upset about cause some people are just like that... And the more people get upset while they drive the more likely they're going to piss me off with their altered driving...
