EAST BURKE, Vermont — The Burke Mountain Ski Area unveiled a vastly expanded array of terrain parks over the 2005/06 holiday week. A new intermediate-level terrain park on the Dashney Mile trail opened on December 26th as a late Christmas present for skiers and riders, joining three other modified terrain parks at Burke to form a completely redesigned system of rails, hits, boxes, and other features for visitors of all abilities.

(Photo: Burke Mountain Ski Area)</center></td></tr></table>To oversee the design and construction of the area's terrain parks, Burke brought in Railbuilders, a top consultant team from California with experience building features for major western resorts such as Heavenly and Mt. Rose. With entry-level rails and bumps on Carter Country, intermediate rails on Open Slope, the extensive new array of intermediate-level features on Dashney Mile, and a much-improved expert-level park on The Gap—Burke now boasts a graduating series of freestyle areas in which skiers and riders can test and improve their skills. In addition, Burke Mountain offers a new season-long freestyle program for young snowboarders between the ages of 8 and 15.
The improved terrain parks have immediately drawn the attention of Burke's freeskiers and riders who now have access to first-rate freestyle obstacles in addition to the mountain's storied downhill terrain of groomed trails and challenging glades. As one snowboarder said in The Gap terrain park Wednesday afternoon, you can now add "Grab huge air" to the list of things to do at Burke Mountain this winter.
