New chapter of story....well apperently the 45 minutes I spent driving stick 5 years ago did nothing for me. At least its an easy learning curve...now just if I can get into first without looking like some punk wanting to race. (I swear I must have tricked at least 5 people in to dragging me today when all i wanted to do was get into first)

Are you talking about starting from a dead stop?

yeah, but thats not so much of an issue anymore. only thing im worried about is having to drive to queens tomorrow. yup, my regular job called me in, thank god. That job has spoiled me so much with insane amounts of money for little work. I couldn't help but be snobbish when looking for a new job.

Anyway, I can shift smoothly into first and all other gears now. Only problem is I do occasionally stall (but not buck the car anymore) if I get caught in traffic, I might be screwed.

Sounds like you might want to have a spare clutch on hand:razz:

Alright, now you can start learning to downshift, double clutch, heel-toe, trail break, and shift without the clutch.

I love driving a manny tranny.

I didn't know you swung that way Marc...

I was kind of expecting a comment on that one...

But more from cten, skibum, andyzee or BobR. Instead I'm shot down by a fellow Connecticuter...ite..ian.

Or something.

By the way, how's the kid doing?

Dutch Rudder?

We got a new TSX a couple of weeks ago. The 6-speed on that thing is great (though I keep forgetting to shift to 6th on the highway). Smooth throw, nice and short, but not so short that you aren't sure you actually shifted, but the cluch is really weird- long throw on that, starts to grab about 1/4 out, but then doesn't actuall grab until near the top. Quick shifting, though, you only have to push the clutch in about 2 inches.

That Civic will treat you right, no doubt.

I'm really getting the hang of it. One of my best friends happens to be a really good standard driver, so for the past few nights I have volunteered to be DD. Having him in the passenger seat has accelarated my learning. He said last night that I am past the point of damaging the car, now I just have to smooth everything out to perfection.

I have discovered one reason to hate stick.....DRIVE THROUGH!!!

Back off topic, Marc, I always knew you loved Manly Trannys but c'mon man, we got little kids in here. I'm sure their parents don't want them hearing about alternative life styles...EDIT: I removed a line, I decided it was pushing political, but I assure you that it smoothed the joke out such that I didn't look like a gay basher..

Honda, and Acura in particular, has been known for quality shifters. Teflon coated everything, crisp, short throws as you noted. And I'm sure you'll get used to the 6th gear soon enough.

The clutch in the TSX is hydraulic, I'm sure. One of the reasons it exhibits those characteristics you mentioned.

You'll find that on cold mornings, from a cold start, you may have to push the clutch pedal nearly to the floor to get the car in gear from a stop.

I believe you're right. I've heard that you can adjust it to take some of the "slack" out, but I haven't gotten around to doing that. The car's stll too new for my wife to be pleassed with me tinkering with it (I'm pretty sure we've washed it more times than we've put gas in it so far)

I was upset that I could never come up with any good ones for the misquote thread so I had to jump on that one. It was just too easy ;)

My daughter is doing fine, thanks for asking. She'll be a year old tomorrow. :)

BTW, I think it's Connecticutioner...
