hey everyone,

my name is marc, am 25 yrs old and am originally from south germany. I have never been skiing in the north east before but have skied since i am 6 yrs old. this coming weekend (04/04 - 04/07) i will be visiting my girlfriend in norwalk connecticut. i have been wondering if there was any good snow left in the north east and if you guys had any suggestions as to where to go. I would consider up to a 4hr drive from norwalk, ct. i heard alot of good things about killington but am not sure if it is all hype or truth. i would be very thankful for any kind of input/ideas

until then, be safe or crazy

marc

don't bother with killington. If you want to go to a zoo, the Roger Williams one is alot closer to you.

It really depends on the kind of skiing you're into. Wildcat ist echt toll, und nicht langsam. As far as Vermont goes, Sugarbush ist auch toll. Man hat mir gesagt, das Mount Snow hat viel Schnee und tolle skilaufen. Mad River Glen ist also spitze. Wir haben viel, viel schnee.

Sorry if my german is horrible. I'm a third year student in high school.

Now how are us non-German speakers supposed to know what was said?

lol,

1st david, don't worry your german is perfect. actually for 3 yrs of german its awesome.

i'd like to go somewhere with good skiing and a decent amount of night life. i am not into cross country and don't really need woods. i realize that this late in the season powder is pretty much out of the question. so basically i am just looking for somewhere to take my girlfriend and freshen up her (sorry, our) skiing skills. :) oh yeah, she is a wild one so some sort of night life should be present (doesn't have to be a zoo though). i guess lots of snow (as much as possible considering the time of the year), nice fast and intermediate slopes and a little bit of "apres ski" is what i am looking for. oh could you maybe give me city/area and states as i am NOT familiar with the area at all, maybe even distances from norwalk, ct
thanks a bunch.

2nd. hawkshot, if you need me to translate anything let me know. :) he just said that wildcat and sugarbush is pretty nice and fast.

I see ne reason to rule out Killington. Good spring skiing (at least in years past) and excellent bars. There is some hype but the mountain has plenty of good stuff.

now see if you wouldn't have requested pictures before giving out any info I would actually believe that. but now i think you are trying to send me to this crappy place no one really wants to go. no all jokes aside though, so killington is ok then? the reason i ask about it is because it should only be around 3.5hrs from ct and i heard that the apres ski is not bad either.

All joking aside, Killington is a fine mountain. Lot's of people bitch about it (prices, crowds) but there is some damn good terrain. Check conditions as I live 2000 miles away.

i really appreciate all the input guys. thats a nice pic ckofer. i guess i will start looking into lodging and tickets then. any tips as to where to stay? don't need a 4star hotel as i plan to only sleep in it but location to lifts and bars/restaurants would be important.
thanks again guys. make sure to hit me up if you ever need any info about the sunshine state. :)

Ich emphele Stowe für die beste Schifahren und Nachtleben. Sugarbush ist auch sehr gut mit weniger Nachtleben.

Happy Bear isn't very nice, but it's a quick drive to the lifts and, more importantly, a quick WALK to the garlic and pickle barrel for cocktails. If you want a little nicer there is a place attached to Baja Burrito...(Chateu Killington maybe?) You can walk right to Outback pizza which is fun at night. The Inn at Six Mountains isn't bad. Forget the sunshine state, I'll hit you up about Munich info.

beanonyc,
hahaha, well I have lived 30mins outside of munich for 16years and used to ski in austria so if you ever need any info let me know. as far as the sunshine state is concerned, i love it. i don't think i would ever move away. besides, way cheaper to live here and fly to the ski destinations then to live up north. :) thanks for the tips though.

I've got a season's pass to Killington; it's got tons of variety and still had pretty much full snow coverage last weekend (even in the places they don't have snowmaking.) If you like mogul skiing, it's probably the closest place with a lot of good bump runs (the reason for my season pass.)

Also, the new owners have done a tremendous job at keeping the crowds down this year.

I wouldn't worry about the amount of snow left this weekend. My guess is that pretty much anywhere in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine still has good coverage; there's been a lot of snow this year.

The Red Roof Inn on Killington Road is an odd place. Decent beds, clean, and new, but climate control consists of opening the window or putting on more clothes. Weird bathroom layout (no door for the shower, just a curtained changing area,) but should be fine if you're just with your girlfriend.

Killington is a great place if you haven't been there before.

Most of us on this list have a long history with the place, and can't resist the temptation to go on about how it was 'back in the day'; and how this or that corporation ruined it.... it was perfect, it was the garden of eden, those were the golden days of skiing, blah blah blah.

Starting from scratch, with no expectations or grudges, you should have a great time at Killington.
