that one game had so many great effects:

  1. AL East division champs
  2. locked up home-field advantage throughout the playoffs
  3. 100th win of the season
  4. evened the season series with the Sox at 9-9 (after starting out 0-8 )
  5. sweep of Sox
  6. keeping the dream of a Sox-less playoffs going for one more day (though they will get in, eventually)

Normally I'd be all over this, but...

The steroids thing has totally killed my enjoyment of baseball.

The great season probably just means they're all doing an extra cycle or two.

jim, you've got to get over it....the game is still great, even if the players and owners are flawed. it's not as if the pre-steroid players were squeeky-clean, either.....(not that steroids isn't a bad thing, but, let's keep some perspective.)

if professional baseball truly is dead to you, then i trust that the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc., are, too, since steroids is everywhere....heck, the NFL practically glorifies its users (shawne merriman, anyone?).

I know, I know.

Yeah, pre-steriods MLB players did some crappy stuff too.

And there is no doubt that steroids have also impacted my enjoyment of all other sports too. I love track and field but it is so full of steroid abuse that it is hard for me to enjoy watching a prodigy like Usain Bolt and not think he is cheating.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the glorification part since that is the main reason baseball turned its' head to the problem for so long. My real problem is with the glorification of that cheating.

The other thing that bugs me is that there are surely clean players who abide by the code of silence. I understand the peer pressure they are under to stay quiet and it is really hard for me to believe that the truth is that the player who most abused steroids, Jose Canseco, is the one who became the whistle blower and that what he said is really true.

I'll get over it, but you have noticed I do not engage in any Yankee/Bosox conversations anymore because of the real conflict I have about all of this.

I probably need to work less and get a life.

GO YANKEYS!!!

Why do they have to have the games on so late. Sat was the first complete game I was able to stay awake for.

Giradi is looking gaunt.

Seirously, its a NorthEast throw down. The west coast would still be in prime time for the late innings w/ a more reasonable start time. Seeing it on the highlight reel in the AM isn't quite the same. Lets Go Yankees ! ! !!!

After last night's game, I wrote the following in another forum in a topic about how lifelong Met fans are usually die-hard Yankee haters:

My hate for the Yankees has waned and, to be honest, it has almost morphed into becoming in awe of the Yankees. Last night's win just reinforces this belief.

They are just an amazing franchise/team and truly always find a way to win. Watching them win year after year, decade after decade...no team in professional sports comes close to the dominance the Yankees have over the rest of their respective leagues. Out of what...106 World Series...the Yankess will presumably have won 27 of them. 1 out of 4. That, is a mind-boggling statistic. Say what you will...about their payroll.....You still need to find a way to close the deal. There are other teams with high payrolls...(trust me, I know, I'm a Met fan, remember!)....but the Yankees come home winners time and again.
