Okemo 2/18/13

I was at Okemo on Presidents' Day. I never seem to make it to Okemo but I had some friends who were going to be there so I drove up and met them. Blue skies but windy and very cold. As the day went on the wind died down which helped a lot. Parts of the upper mountain near the summit were completely windblown but considering the day and evening before had very strong winds and the trails were decent all things considered. I expected it to be a mob scene but most of the lifts had short lines for a holiday weekend and we never waited more than a few minutes and some lifts were ski on. We skied from 8:30 to 2:30 and had a good day overall despite the temps. I would not put Okemo near the top of my list of favorite ski areas but it seems like a nice place for families.

I know Sunapee and Okemo are run by the same people. While Okemo is larger the vibe and topography felt very similar. Sunapee also has some fun glades when conditions are favorable.

Awesome report. I've been looking at the pics jay has been posting. also 2 friends of mine from HS have been at Jay for the past three days. It looks insanely good right now.
