My card # was compromised during the big Hannaford breach, but luckily my bank was on top of it and issued a new card right away.
Gosh darn technology ;)

My card was also compromised during the Hannaford breach (at least I think that's how it happened)... but it happened about 2 months ago... It was my debit card... I got paid on a friday, and by Sunday morning there wasn't enough money in my checking account for the coffee I was buying at starbucks to go through.

I got it all back, but it took a while.

Same here, my bank called me and told me new cards were on their way before I had a chance to do anything.

Wow, that would really f me up. I only keep enough in checking to pay bills, so that could really screw up a mortgage payment. Fortunately I didn't loose any money through this. Cross fingers for next time . . . I figure these days it's only a matter of time before you get hit with some kind of data/identity theft. You really need to stay on top of your finances and check your accounts every day.

Yeah, it was a total pain in the ass... I was skiing at Loon on Saturday without a care in the world... I called the bank on Sunday and they had already killed my card, but not before the account was basically empty... One of my roommates had to write a new check to our landlord (I'm usually the one to write the rent check), and I had to put everything on my credit cards for about two weeks before I got the money back.

Thats why I refuse to use debit cards. Only credit cards.

It's really no different.Mine has been recalled also because of the Hannaford breach but it's a Visa check card and has the same protection as a cc.

The difference is with a debit card or check card the money comes directly out of your account and you have to get your money back. With a credit card you never loose the money. The bad charges show up on your statement. You inform the credit card company about them and you never have to lay out any money. I have had bad charges on several of my cards and not once have I lost any money out of any of my accounts.

VTFCU?

just curious. I had the same experience, but I still bank with them and got a new card very quickly.
