Have you ever bought or sold ski gear from here, other forum or ebay? If yes where you satisfied with the result?

I've never bought, but I have sold used skis and boots. I never had any luck here, one pair of skis on the Epic forum, all the rest on Ebay. If you sell Oct. - Nov. on Ebay you usually have quite a few people bidding so the price you can get is often really good.

I've purchased skis for both myself and my wife on eBay. The ski I purchased for her were Salomon Scarmbler 7s, the vendor send me Scrambler 5s which look very similiar, but are a good deal cheaper. I contacted the vendor and they exchanged without a problem. However, I do have to wonder if this was an honest mistake or not. I purchased skis for myself, Atomic Metron M-11s. I purchased them in a 174 length, but recieved 164s. In this case I figured the skis have a lot of mass and that I may want to try the shorter ones, so I kept them. Bottom line, I found I got good deals, but you do have to be careful.

Make sure you get a real good deal, or know how to set them up yourselves. Many shops will charge much more for setting up equipment that was purchased elsewhere and brought to them.

And if it is a ski with a integrated binding, make sure it is included in the auction. Dont laugh, it has happened, and then you cant buy just the binding.

i have bought online plenty of times. never had a problem with shops slapping on the binding even though i didn't buy it from them. the shops i have gone to have a set rate for binding installation and i have always been charged the standard rate. i have never heard of shops jacking prices just because you didn't buy through them. most of the ebay skis i have bought came from vendors that also had their own online store and sold overstocked merchandise in new condition. i have bought from elvistheskiguy or something like that on ebay who deals in used skis and was very happy with my purchase and i got poles from some shop in NY on the cheap. i have only been disappointed with one purchase and that was a pair of skis that i tried once (bought brand new) and just didn't feel they suited my particular skiing style. interestingly enough, i am now working with another AZer to sell them. online buying and selling is a great thing. what else are you going to do with old skis you don't want? and why pay top dollar when there are folks willing to sell really good and hardly used skis on the cheap? establishing good reputation such as with the ebay rating system is a good idea. i would trust most any poster on this boarder that has been a frequent contributor to do a good gear sale.

always a good experience buying online, however I'm the type that preferes to pay a little extra to actually touch my merchandise before I purchase.

My limit is usually around 30% off or more after shipping is factored in.

I bought my skis online from eBay, but I did quite a bit of homework first. Once I had found the right person to buy them from I was able to pick up a $1000 pair of Salomons for 1/4 the regular new price. When I got the skis I immediately had the skis tuned and checked to be sure that there were no defections. As far as buying online from places like eBay you want to go over the auction with a fine tooth comb for every bit of information you can. I have found in the past if the auction seems too good to be true on initial discovery, it most likely is.

I bought a snowboard and bingings via E-bay (for my son). It worked out well.

I've shopped on-line, but I usually (99%) by locally. It has paid off for me. Strands for boots, gear for my wife and daughter @ Wa...nice to have a rapport with a vendor.

Tried the rapport thing with Scam Market...NO GO. Never going back.

As for "jacking prices" for mounting gear....had a pal get refused at a local shop when he scored race-stock skis from a rep (awesome pricing). My pal took them to another local shop and paid the standard mounting price. He's all done with shop #1.

You may rmember my thread from last year regarding a local shop and Lok-Tite applied to my sons snowboard. Two thoughts on that event. 1) Sort of goes counter to the shop locally mantra. "They" applied the lok-tite, althought the guy who applied the goop (when I bought new bindings and had them do the mounting) claimed he "didn't do it"....it came down to "he said, she said". We shop accordingly now.

2) HOWEVER...in attempting to find resolution, I shopped on-line and found some (I thought) better deals than the local shop was counter-offering. Part of the amends-making process between us was their "educating" me onthe "deals" I was finding on-line. We ended up using the local shop to obtain a Rome board at a decent price.

I've bought 2 pairs of skis on eBay saved over $400 both times. I have not had any issues getting bindings mounted and I think you'll find that any respectable shop won't charge extra just because you didn't buy the equipment there.

Ebay selling...

I haven't had any issues highpeaks.....still my purchase was from a shop, unloading gear....and selling stuff, so never really took the dive off the cliff for any one person's used stuff. The main thing is to see good pics and make sure any gear is from the year you think it's from.....

Was curious if anyone had experience with "craigslist.com"??? Seems like they have some good deals locally. Thinking it may beat ebay in that respect, even though I worship ebay...
