The Osceolas are great. East Peak is a major disappointment, but my woman liked the chimney and climbing up it. The main view is amazing and worth the relatively easy climb. You are right about the campsites at the top...there is a lot of damage. IIRC there used to be a firetower up there, hence all the sidetrails.

As for the empty campsites, no surprise considering the forecast was a washout. We *had* discussed spending the night at Guyot Shelter and nailing a number of peaks, but the weather and Ms. Trailboss' lack of hiking this summer (with the long distance and heavy pack) deterred us....

We are hoping to get back up to Osceola this fall....

The best views from East Osceola are from a rock near the top & just off the trail & when ascending from the other side, from the slide. The slide is not for the faint of heart when wet or icy. The trail crosses it at an angle.

Yep, I remember that crossing as well.....that's why I wanted to trun back. I probably wouldn't have a problem going up it, at this time of year though....probably wouldn't have liked going down it though. :O I was happy with the choice that we made though. It was a good day.
