Conditions - loose granular

I have my nephew up visiting for the weekend, so took the family up to Pat's Peak for the day. Looks like they are on the ball there and the trails are in good shape after last week's warm snap. There's some icy hardpack under there, but it seemed well covered with some pretty soft granular. They've been making some new snow and that seems to be working out well.

I bought some of my very own ski boots this past week, so I was spared the really lousy rental boots they have there, but the rest of the family had to put up with that, so I felt a little guilty. This was only my second time at Pat's Peak, so I was still discovering some new things. We had lunch in the lodge and it's a little above average, with less greasy junk food than some other places, and the prices were more reasonable than the bigger mountains.

It was moderately busy, but not enough to be overly annoying. Lots of little kids of course, so the green trails had a lot of obstacles. I was thinking I'd make it through the whole day without a fall, but then on one run I was going a little fast and a lady was meandering along and I thought no way she'll ski the trail all the way to the edge... Well I guess making assumptions is a bad idea because she decided to meander all the way to the side where I was trying to get past. Clipped my left ski and I skidded to an abrupt stop, but the snow was soft so no harm. I guess I should have called out "On you right!" or something, but I only thought of that while picking myself back up.

Weather was picture perfect, sunny and mild temps all day.

So overall had a good day, and the only thing that started bugging me near the end was realizing I was spending way more time on the slow poke lifts than skiing down the trails.

You will find a lot of positive comments about Pats on AZ...they have a very well run operation IMO and there's a nice variety of trails for a place with <1000 feet of vertical.

Did you have a chance to ride the doubles to the peak? They are side loaders so they can be a little trickier to load, but the ride time is less than the peak triple.

Yeah, I was riding one of the doubles to the peak. The line was shorter and the lift stopped less often than the triple. The double had a singles line, but it didn't seem to save much time since the guy directing traffic seemed to ignore the singles line a lot. But the lines were short anyway so no biggie.
