And apparently the storm was a complete and total surprise.
I grew up in central Arkansas. If it looked like there was a chance that it might snow at some point in the next two weeks, there was a run on essentials and the whole county shut down. Heaven forbid if it actually did snow...

Though, I can't say folks here are all that much better. Maybe a quarter inch when I woke up tis morning, and there were cars out that hadn't been cleared off at all going 4 miles an hour. I'm in a 400 horse power rear wheel drive coupe wondering if I can just shove the Subaru crawling along a straight level road out of the way.

But no one down their has tires or experience driving in the snow.

Really doubt if many even have All Terrains....
One fellow interviewed Wed morning, some position in National Guard I think, talked about how certain responsibilities were so split up
instead of either the mayor or governor...and both were in some medal ceremony around noon, pinning medals on Each Other!..
You look at them spinning their wheels....I bet driving in winter conditions is something that's never
been encountered by any driving instructor down there....
Among all other groups getting out at approximately the same time of day, there was said to be a meeting of poultry distributors as well, trucks, eggs, and all... and the flake who I watched in the early AM hours..and thought to be the mayor, was actually the governor....blaming the weather service(s)....lol....and hearing that they were both at a ceremony pinning medals of commendation on each other...ROTFL.

The Mayor of Atlanta said something along the lines of 'what kind of city would I be running if we canceled school and work at every threat of weather?' Blamed the whole thing on businesses shutting down at the same time, rather than staggering dismissals.

Unbelievable.

People in the Northeast might have a different opinion if their town/city didn't have plows or salt/sand trucks. Imagine Route 128 or the Connecticut Turnpike with 2" of unsalted/unsanded ice at 31F. It would be complete mayhem. Unless you have chains, studded tires, or the very best friction tires like Blizzaks or Nokian Hakkas, you're not going anywhere. 4wd won't help if you have to touch the brakes.
