Plattekill Mountain, February 23, 2008:
Introduction: Haven't written any trip reports for the last 4 or 5 time's I've been up, all were at Belleayre. Showed up at Belleayre at about 11, and they were making people park in the cross country lot. Me and my friend decided that the snow would be horribly tracked out so we made the decision to continue on to Plattekill. I haven't been up there since I worked there last year and missed it.
Weapon of Choice: Endeavor Colour 156
Conditions: You'd think 7 more inches of snow would have given Plattekill some decent coverage. Not so on the big straight trails, where rocks, streams, and grass were all showing. The narrow windy trails held it very well, and there was so much powder to be found despite showing up at 12. Bumps had a real nice kicker on it and the trails like Cat Track and Cliffs were amazing all day. Took laps on the double, the woods were really good in places, but the mountain could use another few feet to get to how it should be. Despite the thin cover in places, the powder on the good trails made it well worth it.
Weather: Sorta cloudy, not too cold.
Lifts: None, avoided the Belleayre crowds and it was a great thing.
Notes: Park sucked, the jumps were narrow and pretty weird shaped.
Rating: 8/10
Conclusion: Great to head back up to Plattekill, tons of fun in the powder, but some trails had bad coverage.
