Hit Plattekille for the day and ended up skiing with the ski patrol...for almost 8 hours. Started the day on some freshies that fell over night. the whole place was bumped up and I wanted to try out the new boards. they work great in t eh bumps and cutr through everything easily. blockbuster had huge moguls, plunge was tight, even the northface had a good field. Stayed on the double chair most of the day and ended up closing the mountain around 5pm...wiped!

No crowds...at all. And yes I got the S3's and they are the best things I ever put on my feet. I doubt they would do well in ice but in the moguls and anything else they just rip...well they make it a lot easier for me anyway!!

boggles the mind that they cant generate a crowd when hunter is down in conditions like those, place is a gem.... i havent made it to hunter west, how would you compare blockbuster to some of the good stuff at hunter west?

Agreed. I don't get why more people don't ski there. I've actually been more surprised on lake effect days, when there's a bunch of fresh snow at Plattekill and much less at the resorts further east.

Hunter West has a noticably steeper pitch. When I've skied it, the conditions have been much more challenging than when I've skied Plattekill, so its tough to compare, but on a midweek day with this much natural snow, I'd say Hunter offers more interesting (and certainly more challenging) terrain.

Westway is relentless...very steep in the middle and very wide so it gets widy as hell. Nothing at Platt compares. Blockbuster is just the right size though as it doesn't totaly waste you. You can't beat Platt for the lack of crowds and the amount of terrain you can ski if you have the balls to hop into the woods...you might not come out, they go on and on and get very deep!!
