In another thread @4aprice mentioned that one nice thing about this winter for us ski road-trippers is that the price of gas is down.

On Saturday, 10 Jan 2026 I pulled into a Sinclair gas station in West Jordan (SLC suburb) and bought regular gas for $1.99. Used card, not cash, and did not use any thing like loyalty points. This was the first time in I don't know how many years I've bought regular gas at "window" prices for under two bucks.

I drive across the country a lot in the last decade, pretty much once or twice every year. I can't remember gas this low in that time frame, although google says it got pretty low in 2020 and 2016. It's been under $3 in much of the country since I drove west in Nov 2025 and it keeps dropping. I drove to San Diego at Christmas time and they are still in the $4.50 - 6.00 range, but Cali is known for high gas. I do have a distinct memory of paying $1.39 for gas on a ski trip in rural Virginia in Jan 2009.

Once we finish taking over Venezuela things are really going to get good...just kidding.

There are 2 stations off Rt 25 (heading to Freedom from RT 16) in NH and both were at $2.40 which is the lowest I've seen in that area in some time. BJ's Gas in Norwood, MA was rocking similar prices last Thursday when I was there. Can't recall the last time I saw $2 gas.

Hopefully we see that start to change soon, wind and solar are not the answer !

$2.39 in Londonderry today, cash. It was $2.49 for a card tap. I'll take it.

My supply charge is much less than the last few years, except one. This is probably due to more competition with the addition of a community power option in my town. However, the distribution charges are getting completely out of control. Something really needs to be done about this when distribution charges are much more than the electricity you use.
