In another thread @4aprice mentioned that one nice thing about this winter for us ski road-trippers is that the price of gas is down.
On Saturday, 10 Jan 2026 I pulled into a Sinclair gas station in West Jordan (SLC suburb) and bought regular gas for $1.99. Used card, not cash, and did not use any thing like loyalty points. This was the first time in I don't know how many years I've bought regular gas at "window" prices for under two bucks.

I drive across the country a lot in the last decade, pretty much once or twice every year. I can't remember gas this low in that time frame, although google says it got pretty low in 2020 and 2016. It's been under $3 in much of the country since I drove west in Nov 2025 and it keeps dropping. I drove to San Diego at Christmas time and they are still in the $4.50 - 6.00 range, but Cali is known for high gas. I do have a distinct memory of paying $1.39 for gas on a ski trip in rural Virginia in Jan 2009.
Once we finish taking over Venezuela things are really going to get good...just kidding.
