What are the options for clean lodging and reasonable rates near Jay Peak for 12/27 or 12/28?

We sometimes go up there for a couple of days between Christmas and New Years. We stay in Newport, a 20 minute drive from Jay Peak. Try the Newport City Motel. There are other lodging options in Newport as well.

Just watch your speed when coming into and out of the little villages along the way... got a ticket there last time.

There is a nice Comfort Inn @ St. Johnsbury that we stay in often when coming up 91. It's a little bit of a drive from there, but it's right @ the exit. There is another more basic motel in Lyndenville a little closer. Jay itself has some lodging. I believe their website has links. There is also a place just past Jay. I think Crank stayed there last year.

Yeah, the Snowline Lodge. Closest place to Jay's access road. Small motel rooms, a bit musty but clean. Really good sit down breakfast is included with the room. I last stayed there 2 seasons ago . Non-holiday retes were $100 per night. Great location and breakfast, acceptable accomadations if you aren't too fussy or don't have a high maintenance SO involved.

My friends have stayed at "Grampa Grunts" They said it wasnt too bad, and pretty cheap.

Grampa Grunts is like a hostel. You have shared bathrooms in the hallway. You should have a private room, I believe. I was there once for a couple nights with a friend a few years ago and we got a private room with 2 beds. I don't think they do shared bedrooms there, but I would ask before staying if that's an issue. I had no complaints about the place, except I really don't like the shared-hallway-bathroom situation (not singling out Grampa Grunts, I don't like it anywhere).

I've heard good things about GG.

Not trying to say anything bad about it. Given the type of place it was, I was as happy as I could be. I would recommend it for someone looking for cheap lodging willing to share bathrooms. Just when someone asks for a lodging recommendation, I think it's very important he/she's made aware that GG is not a like normal motel where you have your own bathroom (as I said I *think* bedrooms are always private at GG). I certainly would not expect to end up in that situation without warning if I asked for recommendations of places to stay. If the original poster is fine with a hostel-like place, then GG can be perfect. If not, then it's not an option.

Stayed at GG mid-week years ago. Pretty dead mid-week on a non-powder day. Hear it is hoping on the weekends with college kids from Burlington. Makes sense, it is a college kids dream with the rec room downstairs. Probably a good choice during the week. Very cheap. As mentioned, it is a hostel setup with shared bath.

$100 seems pricey for a shared bathroom accommodation.

times two..the last time I stayed somewhere with shared bathroom was in Montreal and it was like 30 bucks..

The $100 figure is for the Snowline lodge not GG. The Snowline is not a dorm/hostel like GG. No dollar amount was ever specified for GG. As Crank said "...".

Hey I never mentioned Grampa Grunts. Never stayed there.

Snowline Lodge is a motel, of course you get your own bathroom. I ain't sharing no stinking bathroom.
