Amazingly, the security that the US, UK and EU were told wasn't any good for the passport chips turns out to not be any good. Glad I got mine renewed prior to the addition of the chips.

I mentioned this in the "singles line" thread when you mentioned RFID in ski passes for line control....

im not buying into this tech yet...tooo hackable...think of the lost revenue of a ski resort due to a hacker making "fake" RFID passes..???

The scariest part of teh chips, I thought, was that a hand-held reciever could detect them,a dn tell what country they were from, so someone could walk through a crowd and pick out all the Americans. Not that we're that hard to spot, anyway, but I always get mistaken for a German, so at least I had that cover going for me...

yeah that was a little scary to say the least.....that and the fact that the mere presence of the "signal" the emit could be used to trigger already planted bombs...thats REALLY SCARY...

Hopefully the immigration services will not just go by what the computer tells them and that they let their eyes and brain work too....by actually confirming the passport pic, etc is the individual in question...not infallible...but...this could really get nasty..
