Me and my 6 year old are looking to go to Southern Vermont and start season skiing green and blue groomers on Friday and Saturday. Looking for: less people and more green / blue terrain. What would be the best bet: Okemo, Stratton or Mt Snow ?

Less people, more green and blue, huh? I'd go with Okemo on that one.

Mount Snow has some awesome blue cruisers, but I can't say how busy they'll be. Hard to tell what the general publics attendance will be given the 'all new guns' thing. :-D

Yep, exactly what I was thinking.

And don't forget about the press they got for their opening last weekend. Unfortunately, I think I'll be waiting in some sizeable liftlines at MS late next week. I'll just keep telling myself that more folks = more revenue = more new fan guns and soon to be lifts!

Yeah while no doubt Snow will have as much terrain open as Okemo, I don't know how much Green terrain they will have open by then... I would wait and see... that said, I have always found Okemo's run to seem more crowded than Mount Snows. The liftlines at the base of Snow are longer though...

thanks folks,

we'll start with Okemo next Friday (free for my son) and then we'll see...

I've never been to Okemo, looking forward to.

I would look to snow. As of today they are the only southern vermont with top to bottom skiing. Plus all of their HS are open so lift line will be at a minimal compared with the others that have clustered thier snowmaking around 1 lift. Look for Chute, river run, canyon/standard, long john/fairway, launch pad (all currently open) plus snowdance, long john/deer run from summit to main base and perhaps stuggers and lodge/exhibition by turkey day

The only thing is C2H5OH is looking for LESS people, and MORE greens, and that will likely be Okemo, especially the MORE green part, than Mount Snow.

My son and I used to stay in Chester at a place called the Stone Hearth Inn. Reasonably priced and has a comfortable little pub room where you can grab dinner. It's about 20 minutes to Okemo and 30 to Stratton, 10 to Magic. If you've never been to Okemo, It's a great place for young kids, lots of long greens and blues, great snowmaking and grooming with enough little whoopde doos and tree slots to keep the kids entertained and build their skills. My son is 14 now, when he was 6 he got a lot of mileage in at Okemo.
