I recall being excited about his movies back then because he was from Michigan. That was sumthin!

He entertained me a lot, in fact I caught Ferris Buehler on the Tv last weekend and laughed my butt off, still holds up!

they should have spent more time skiing and boarding.

I watched "Let It ride: The Craig Kelly Story" last night. The films was way better than the trailer. The middle was a little dry, but it got you into the head of a top flight boarder. What really made me relate is that he felt the same way when he was boarding that I do when I'm skiing.
Check it out if you have not already.

This was a real kicker : "John told me about why he left Hollywood just a few years earlier. He was terrified of the impact it was having on his sons; he was scared it was going to cause them to lose perspective on what was important and what happiness meant. And he told me a sad story about how, a big reason behind his decision to give it all up was that "they" (Hollywood) had "killed" his friend, John Candy, by greedily working him too hard."

I agree that Hughes had a great perspective on many things, but the cheeseburger killed John Candy, not Hollywood. Maybe a bit of Billy Mays powder as well.

Dude, it was the cheeseburger that MADE John Candy. And Chris Farley, and John Belushi, and Jackie Gleeson, and Fred Berry, and Curly Howard, and...

Big guys have an inherent humor to them, it's a (no pun intended) large part of what makes them famous. Put them on a diet and get them in shape and they'll be flipping burgers instead.

Any idea how rigorous a movie shooting schedule is? 16 hours a day, seven days a week is getting off easy. What would you suggest? Walk away? Get a real job if it's too demanding?

The Hollywood Mill killed most of the above, if not all. Granted Belushi and Farley had some demons, but I'm sure their career choice aggravated that. While the choice was still theirs, most of us can't begin to imagine just how intoxicating the lifestyle is, nor can we speculate as to what we'd do in their shoes. I totally believe in personal responsibility but, Hollyweird is just a really bad place.
