NEWRY, Maine -- Rusted Root, known for their percussion-driven live shows, is returning to Sunday River's White Cap Lodge on Saturday, Feb. 10 for a Bud Light Concert Series show. The show will be the fourth stop on the band's winter 2007 tour.
Rusted Root cites Latin, African, Eastern, soul, rock, and traditional American music as its influences and the roots of its uncommon sound. The band has continuously evolved in its over 17-year history; recently, its members took a year off to explore other individual creative endeavors, only to regroup stronger than ever.
The band hails from the Pittsburgh area and was created in 1990 by a group pulled together by lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter Mike Glabicki. Other original members included vocalist and songwriter Liz Berlin, percussionist Jim Donovan, and Patrick Norman, a guitarist and bassist. Soon after, John Buynak, a visual artist and multi-instrumentalist, joined the fold and gave the group the flute melodies recognizable in Rusted Root's music, in addition to developing the group's unique artistic presence. Jenn Wertz then joined as a vocalist, followed by Jim DiSpirito, an ethnomusicologist and percussionist.
The band's recent touring schedule included a show at Bonnaroo, a major music and arts festival. Rusted Root has also toured with music legends such as The Dave Matthews Band, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, and Sting.
Rusted Root has recorded seven albums and three EPs, and its music has been featured in many television shows and movies throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Their hit song "Send Me On My Way" alone is on the soundtrack to five movies including Matilda and Ice Age.
Rusted Root's first visit to Sunday River was in February of 2004. The show sold out and received rave reviews from fans. Sunday River's Bud Light Concert Series has a history of bringing well-known musical acts to the mountains of Maine. Tickets are $27.50 and the show is for ages 21 and older.
