ND does suck.....flat, always windy. I think pretty much anywhere in rural America is safer on many levels than the big cities. The further away from the NY metro area the better.

Perhaps this just a rumor but I heard beer is also brewed in other countries so maybe the worst case scenerio would be that you would be forced to drink good beer but at a higher price. :lol:

The 1938 hurricane was a disaster for ALL of New England with Long Island, Costal Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts all getting hit very hard. Flooding occured far inland, and the storm killed 500+ people and destroyed 57,000 + homes.

A friend of mine has a house on Lake Sunapee...
It's built from trees that were knocked down by the storm in 38... All the old houses around his were...
Great stuff.. Pretty sure it's cedar...

I grew up on Hurricane Hill near White River Jct., VT, named from the '38 Hurricane that (I hear) knocked down many trees in town. The Hartford High School "Hurricanes" come from the same (Go 'Canes! Class of '95!).
Still, NE is pretty safe as far as natural disasters go. Plus, there aren't too many dangerous animals either--grizzlies or rattlesnakes or scorpions. Once we throw out all the Yankees fans, it'll be perfect! :wink:

Growing up in Jersey, the cub scouts would make an annual trip to a Mets game. Never saw the Yankees when I lived down there.

I can and have done full grain brewing, but find mixed results when using like or same recipes. The extract is much easier obviously and produces a great tasting beer...IMHO...YEAST is the most important aspect of a good home brew. I dont EVER use dry yeast anymore...only liquid (style specific) yeasts that have been "started" prior to pitching..

When my brother was in college, he used to brew beer in his bedroom at home... until one of these 5 gallon buckets blew up and leaked everywhere.

That brought a quick end to his beer brewing.

When I was in college, we used to brew beer in our dorm rooms, until campus security came in and found our rack room. That brought a quick end to our brewing, until we moved off campus.

Cooking the wort in the suite kitchen was fun, as it stunk up the whole building. We told people we were making buffalo stew, which just goes to show if you tell an outrageous enough lie, people will believe it. As Mark Twain once said, "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, and that should be sufficient for most purposes."

Yeah, that was the spring of 2002, I believe. It was centered over Plattsburgh.
