Did a nice 9.5 mile loop with a ski club group from Scoville. About 2 miles into our ride we were heading south on the Scoville twisties when we came up on 2 black bears...One sizable one and one that appeared to be a cub. They were about 50-75 yards away and very visible. A good sighting. The momma hung around for a minute until she got her bearings...the younger one took off the second we got there.

It was in the area of the twisties just south of where the old ladder stunt was...the one that rotted out. I figured I would give you guys a heads up that there are bear in that area since you ride it often.

They eventually headed west over towards the swamp area...in the vicinity of the Sandy Pelican. So, keep your eyes peeled there too.

I wonder if it was bears that I saw the other night, and not deer?

I'll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled while in that area...

Bri, your ride report you wrote immediately came to mind...that's why I wrote one up today, so you are aware. Unfortunately, one never knows where the bears will roam to...they may hang around there or go to another area of the forest.

You must have done a good job of scarring them away as I rolled through that same exact area about an hour after you all and saw nothing. None the less after reading your post today I definitely exercised some caution and kept an extremely watchful eye as I pedaled through there this evening solo in the dark of night with the lights blazing. Did manage to catch the reflection of my lights from several sets of eyes as I rode through the twisties, pretty sure they where just whitetail deer but in hindsight you never know!
