The ‘schuss down memory lane’ will feature the pioneers, founders, and 'oldies but goodies' of Killington sharing fun stories at what promises to be the “roast of the century” for the king of Eastern skiing.
Pres Smith, Joe and Mary Sargent, Wally Morrison, and a host of early Killingtonites, including many locals, will be sharing their most memorable but light-hearted ski tales.
The free event goes from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Killington Grand Hotel.

I think this is a good sign. A lot folks feel Killington's identity is gone. Reminding folks of the resort's history might help restore the brand if some fundamental changes are made to the operation.

This is a feel good evening....not a discussion for grievances. Sounds like they are trying to get back to Pres and his vision for the place.

I would guess that they wouldn't want to remind folks of the past if they were going to try to bring back some of it...

I don't think Pres would come unless they told him they want to make it comport with his vision.

Should be a good time! I am looking forward to hearing Pres Smith and Joe Sargent. My Father-in-law worked with both of them back in the day when he was Forrest, Parks and Recreation Commissioner for the State of Vermont. He has told me some great stories over the years about the early days of the resort.

I'd be there myself but it's Rosh Hashanah so I can't make it. As for the evening itself, I think it's a good sign. Little by little, Powdr is learning what Killington is all about. While they'll never publicly admit to their ignorance (not to mention arrogance) coming in two years ago, their actions seem to be speaking for them as they quietly reverse their early decisions. Their "branding" is rumored to be returning to Beast of the East or something along those lines but, as I've told them, they'll have to back up that brand with real actions if they expect it to be successful. I'm hopeful, but also taking a wait and see attitude.

FYI, according to the Mountain Times article on the event, Cumming is supposed to be here as well...another good sign as he doesn't get out in public all that often.

+ 1. They sat side by side at the signing I went to. Not much back and forth, but CN was sitting in between Pres and Joe Sargent.

Glad I went and had my book signed. It would be cool to go to the event, but I am not in town.

Did anyone go?

Pres Smith was one of the true visionaries of this industry. Great man to work for that took care of his workers and respected them. Had a great supporting staff to help him and were not afraid of trying new ideas to make the industry and Killington one of the true leaders better. Pres Smith should be in the Skiing hall of fame if not already for his accomplishments to the industry. Hope it was good, and people were honored for what is Killington today.

FWIW Pres is in one, if not many, Halls of Fame. VT is one.
