HIGHMOUNT, New York — Belleayre Mountain will host a Shandaken Day & Race on Sunday, March 12, 2006. This event will help raise funds for the production of the documentary "Shandaken Remembered: From Beginnings to Bicentennial", a recent film produced by Shandaken residents to capture the story of the Town's rich history and exuberant Bicentennial Celebration. All profits of the Shandaken Day & Race at Belleayre Mountain and the sale of the film DVD will go to the Empire State Railway Museum in Phoenicia, NY & the Shandaken Museum in Pine Hill, NY.

Shandaken Day at Belleayre Mountain will include a race on the Nastar course, open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages. Cost of the race will be $20, which will include an all-day lift ticket to Belleayre and the fee to race. Shandaken residents will receive a special rate of just $15 when they show proof of residency. Pre-register with Belleayre Mountain at 845-254-5600 ext. 428 or by stopping by the Guest Service Desk at the mountain. Day of race registration will be held in the Overlook Lodge between 8 - 10:30 am, and the race will start at 11 am.

A showing of the documentary "Shandaken Remembered" will be shown continuously throughout the day in the Overlook Lodge, and will also be available for purchase. The 35-minute film tells the story of the Town's exuberant Bicentennial Celebration; then casts an eye back on Shandaken's rich and fabled past including the days of the first settlers, early
industries, the coming of the railroad, the 19th century resort heyday, and the modern era.

The film project involved local history buffs, writers, photo collectors such as Lonnie Gale and Rolf Reiss; and photographers including Mark Loete, Mark McCarroll, James Heil and Joe Munster. Mark McCarroll, James Heil, Joe Munster, all of whom contributed still photos. The documentary also features music by artists James Krueger of Kingston and Hilton Kelly of Fleischmanns. It was edited by Tobe Carey, whose credits also include the documentary "Deep Water," about the building of the Catskills reservoirs.
