My sister inlaw has to go to Iraq for 5 months.... Sucks... She's an Ortho Surgeon - supposedly it's a lot better there now from when my brother(her husband) had to do a tour there....

We thought her 2 tours in Afghanistan were enough.. At least her kids are old enough where I don't have to help take care of them..

just venting... thank you... Support the troops! :flag::flag:

What did he do in Iraq? Sorry he got messed up... :(

My Brother(AF) and his wife(Army) are OK... they are both doctors and full Colonels so they aren't on any front lines and this isn't their first time at "war" so I think they are prepared for it..

My Brother actually retired last year - SisInLaw can retire but chose not to.. I don't think she thought she'd be deployed again. Kind of a shock to all of us..

Ya he was in charge of some people and directed them what to do I really can't say much else but he was messed up and he tricked the military into thinking he was okay and the stress got to him

Me too...
As goofy as my brother is... When he's(was) in uniform he was all professional.. Well except the time he put on a Santa Suit in Saudi Arabia when he was deployed there.. But the suit covered his uniform... haha..

It's gotta be tough to be a DOC in "war"... The stuff they see is indescribable - the stories of little kids stepping on Soviet era land mines tear at my heart... She said at one point she had more kids then soldiers.

My Brother spend 5 crazy months commanding all air medical evacs out of Iraq and Afghanistan. C130 lands full of supplies and is turned around for wounded in a couple hours and off to Germany to the hospital.

they are indeed awesome for what they do..

..

I was in the Air Force (guard) from 1999 - 2005 and one of my annual training was in Rammstein AB in Germany. I remember being in the BX on base and seeing at least 2 or 3 kids who were injured from the war. Totally heartbreaking.

I just finished reading this book -

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Hearts-Platoons-Descent-Triangle/dp/0307450759

And it really is just incomprehensible the level to which some of our soldiers put themselves in harms way for each other and for us. There can't be any way to describe it.

yeah - it's crazy. But there's some consolation knowing we come from a country that helps these kids. My sister in-law actually got "wrote up" for organizing a stateside clothing drive for the kids passing through the hospital in Afghanistan. My nephews collected the clothes - my brother picked them up and got them on a plane. and they were delivered. When her CO found out that she did this outside of the rules - he got really pissed off and reprimanded her.. She said for the record - she'd do it again... :)

I'll check that book out. I wonder if my brother's read it?

Have you seen Restrepo yet? It's pretty good.. Wild what happens when you basically stick kids in the middle of a war..
Almost mirrors what a guy I ride with went through..

So she is headed up to Northern Iraq to work in a hospital with the "kurds"...

that actually makes her safer - Kurds don't put up with any crap...
