I am all set with my skis for the trip. I am bringing Head iRace GS's and Apache Recons. My boots are the question. I have Head World Cup Race boots. They are 110 to 120 Flex. I think that may be to stiff for the steep and deep of JH. I am looking at Atomic B90's or B80's due to my foot width. I need a high volume boot everywhere. Thought and recomendations?

I wouldn't change my boot just for different snow conditions.I ski frozen Cannon snow every weekend but just got back from catskiing waist deep in British Columbia. If your boot fits right, bring em to the Hole.

I agree. Racers are not the only ones that like stiff boots. Many freeskiers are equally concerned about a tight fitting, stiff boot. They will do just fine in Jackson. If you have a good fitting boot that doesn't hurt, keeps you warm and transfers your input to the ski well, thats good enough.

The bigger question is, which skis do you take. If you like carving and speed on groomers (jackson has some great steep and wide high speed groomers) the GS skis are great, but otherwise, forget it. The off-piste terrain is steep, tight and often gladed and (if you get lucky) deep, not the best place for GS skis.

I personally don't see a point in going out to JH and not spending as much time as possible on the off-piste - IMO the off-piste is what makes JHMR so good, not the trails. But then again, I am heavily biased towards off-piste cause thats what I like skiing.

  1. I don't think those boots are too stiff, then agian, I'm 240 lbs, for a lighter skier they may be a bit stiff.
  2. If you want a high volume boot, you may want to consider Nordica's Speed Machine line. Not sure, but I think Atomic may be more for a narrower foot.

I am 225lbs myself. The boots are fine but I was thinking more about fatigue. I was thinking a softer boot would be less fatigue. I have the Recons for off-piste. I am planning on climbing to no lift service places.

BOots will be fine. I have climbed the headwall a number of times. No problemo!

do not buy new boots just for a trip. what ever your worrying about, the discomfort of new boots will be far worse.
