After I moved back to New England from all those years out west, I wished I had done it 10 years earlier! People in "real" Wyoming used to refer to Jackson Hole as "WyoDisney". New England is "real world" places like Jackson Hole, Aspen, Vail, Telluride etc. are not.
just wanna be clear on this.

are people who live in salt lake, denver, portland, bend and reno fake too?

all of on this forum truly enjoy your complaining and everything, but it would be nice to hear something not about NE sucking every once in a while

Ski bum...what a cool post...thanks. A part of me always felt stupid for not moving out west. And perhaps I shoud still do a little stint out there. But you mentioned all the little things that kind of are actually a big deal for me. Really, no peepers the spring? No lightening bugs? Ouch. I love those little dudes. Thanks for reminding me to be happy with the scene we got here.

another post..4 days this time, rather than 4 years. Thanks for the good thoughts guys.
Someone asked if I'm still skibumming...well not really, although i'll always ride as much as possible. I came back: 1) to get back home, and 2) to go back to school. I got my AA in Fine Arts from Colorado Mountain College and plan to do the Graphic Design program at Plymouth State.
I took a job there as a *COUGH*..janitor. Not too glamorous but it gives me not only FREE tuition but also killer health ins., pension, holidays off with pay (haven't had those off for over ten years!), and other bennies.
With my ID I get $5 tickets at Cannon (my favorite) and Ragged, and I believe $10 tickets at Loon/WV and $1 (!) at Tenney.
I enjoyed my stay out west but am very happy to be home.
Edit-> that PSU job ended up being horrible, and I quit after a couple months. I eventually went to another school, then moved to Portsmouth. Towards the end I would only go riding once a year on a nice spring day. Sorry but the ice and cold and crowds kept me away.

Here's the update 11 years later
Thought it might be interesting to update this thread over a decade later. But now I'm not sure if I should sugar coat it to not offend the New Englanders, or really let loose to warn the people that have migrated west and are thinking of returning. The best explanation might be that Colorado is not New Hampshire, and New Hampshire is not Colorado. I was glad to return, it was a great experience. But I realized everything I missed about NH was just nostalgia that I could experience on a vacation. What I missed about CO turned out to be fundamental, day-to-day life things.
All that being said, if I could find a way to live in NH for July, August, and September I probably would.

So are you back in the rockies???

You need to consider seasonal job or careers. My schedule right now=november-may west and may-oct back east. I traveled this last fall for about a month camping mtb ect... and hope to do a couple weeks on my way back east this spring. There's things/people in the east that keep me coming back, just not in winter if i can help it.

Longest running thread ever!

ski-bumming east coast style: an ironic and anachronistic fantasy indulged by a few, die hard (read: dilusional) members of the eastern brethren.

Whoops forgot to mention I moved back to Steamboat a couple of months ago.

Yep, I used to visit NH for 2 weeks to a month during the shoulder seasons. It's pretty much expected that you bug out to Moab or something.
While living in NH even getting a weeks vacation was next to impossible.
