Resort:Ski Butternut
Date Skied: 2/26/06, 12:45pm to 4:00pm
Conditions:boiler plate covered up with machine made snow. Sun and clouds, 16 degrees.
Trip Report:
Where was the 4 to 6 inches of snow predicted? If it happened the wind must of blown it all away.
The lot looked packed but there were no lines at the lifts and the trails were not crowded. Snow was being blown on upper and lower Downspout and the Uptown trail. Nobody was over there. After a run down from the TF quad I realized why. My goggles were covered with ice crystals. The lower part of the trail was covered with some nice snow and no boilerplate found.
It looks like they may have made snow on the entire mountain Saturday night. Wherever the snow was scraped off or wind blown, the boilerplate revealed itself. Upper Applejack to Dipsy was my pick for the main mountain. Dipsy had some deep piles of machine snow toward the bottom.
After several runs I decided to take the Overbrook triple to the summit. There was nobody on the lift. I found out why. It was the fresh blast from the guns. The trip down was great for conditions, it is just the visibility was bad due to the heavy ice build up on my goggles. A quick run into the lodge to defrost and back up the triple. The snow was great and it was the best trail open today. Everybody else must of been afraid of the snow guns as I never saw anybody else in my 4 runs over here.
Still a great afternoon out.
