I was at Bromley this past weekend and noticed a group of kids go by with an instructor (They looked to be advanced intermediate skiers). All the kids were skiing with their poles between their legs, like a witch flying on a broom stick. I've never seen a sight like this before. I assume it was meant to teach some aspect of proper form but can't figure out what it might be, anyone know the purpose of this exercise?

 Wouldn't that hurt if you fell?

Honestly, not a clue. I haven't seen a group lesson do that where I work. Then again, I'm usually on the beginner side.

I haven't seen this either... but it does remind me of another drill/exercise. Getting into a semi tuck or a full tuck. Then making turns by rolling the ankles and/or pressing on the tongues of the boots for pressuring the dh ski. By keeping the upper body tucked, the drill ensures lower body and upper body independence when making a turn.

You can use your poles as breaks that way.
