Hey everyone.

I need to mount bindings on a new pair of skis. I live in queens, NY and the only ski shop that I know of is princeton ski and they charge $40 to mount bindings. That seems kind of expensive but I do not know since I am a complete newbie to skiing. Are there any cheaper shops around?

I will be heading to hunter mtn next weekend...are the shops around hunter mtn better/less expensive?

Please let me know!

thanks!

Welcome. Where in Queens are you? Do you have a car? I wouldn't let Princeton touch my skis. If you can get out to the island, bring them to Sno Haus in Hempstead. If not, get them done up at Hunter. A hunter local will be able to point you in the right direction as to a shop.

There is a little ski shop in Forest Hills, right on Queens Blvd. called Emilio's. I've never had any work done but have stopped in once or twice and they were friendly enough. It's been there for a long time so that should say something. Other than that, Sno-Haus in Hempstead, as Beano said is probably your best bet in relation to Queens.

There is a general rule of thumb about ski expertise: it is inversely proportional to the distance from the ski resort. Said another way: the best/skilled/knowledgeable people are closest to the mountain. That applies to buying, servicing and availability of quality gear. With any generalization, exceptions (like LI will apply).
