You must drive faster than me. I live in Portland and its a solid 2.5 hours to Sugarloaf and in good conditions I'd say 2:45 to Saddleback. My family lives in Mass near the junction of the Pike and 495 and that takes me two hours to get to going 75 the whole way. So with Hartford and hour and a half beyond there, I figured 5.5-6 hours to Saddleback or the Loaf for you when the Bush and Stowe are more like 4.

I definitely hope to his Saddleback again and I'm sure on the right day I'd LOVE it. Sugarloaf is a fantastic mountain no doubt. Guess I just miss Mansfield in a BIG way. Is good as it's been this winter up here in Maine, I look at powderfreaks TR's from Stowe and salivate.

Like I said, different strokes for different folks. No one's right or wrong, no arguement. I LOVE living in Maine more so than I did in Vermont......outside of the skiing. That's just me though

I don't really drive all that fast though I most certainly am not a creature of the right lane! We do use I-290 through Worcester which saves about 15 miles each way on the trip.

If powder is what you seek, Maine has somewhat of a geographic disadvantage with a more marine influenced climate (read rain) and that can result in alot of freezing rain such as what happened last week, though it did happen in most of Northern New England.

Maine has the advantage of being further north and thusly holds onto what snow does fall well into spring.

I plan to be up into Maine quite a bit next month, perhaps we could meet up. I do know Saddleback/Sugarloaf fairly well, though back country skiing is not my thing.

This makes me crazy. The mountain is freakin' buried right now and the bumps are primed. I wonder if they would ever consider opening if we could host some sort of AZ day there. You know, sort of like Plattekill where we could "rent" the mountain for $X....
Cool idea. Might be worth pitching. :D

Not really my thing so much these days either. I simply don't get out enough these days to trust myself in the real hard core off map stuff anymore. Gettin' conservative in my 'old' age I guess ;)

Outside of Sugarloaf, Saturday the 13th, I don't have much planned for Maine, though even that might change. I've got a twofer voucher there and my use it another time if the skiing doesn't look great that weekend. I'd love to meet up for some turns with you and your son sometime. Shoot me a message whenever you're heading up and who knows.
