In other news..Lindsey Vonn takes 1st in the women's downhill (whaaat?) and Jackie Wiles 3rd on the podium in Zauchensee, Austria. You can re-watch the USA smackdown on Peacock.

Much respect for Lindsey especially after her knee replacement.

I've been stalling on getting my right knee replaced and this season I can see my performance is starting to slip. That and the constant aches and pains have convinced me it's time. Watching her ski this season has been inspirational for me. My biggest fear is that I'll get it replaced and I won't be able to ski.

And that she's 41!

I know what you mean. Good luck with the knee..they've come a long way as far as procedure to recovery time.

Having races split amounts 3 streaming services - and an occasional NBC broadcast- is so lame. While I like being able to see every race, they need to pick a single provider and have all races available.

With respect to youth in ski racing (and many of their parents as well) the constant need to be on their phones and know the results immediately, led the US Ski and Snowboarding Association (the governing body of ski racing of all age levels in the US) to institute a new policy change with respect to posting timing results in essentially real time for the U10, U12 and U14 age groups. Most races will post up the run times, basically immediately when they happen from the timing software to the Live Timing App. Now for those 3 age groups, the times won't be posted until every athlete has finished that run, which as someone who now often sits in the finish timing shack during races, I think is a great thing, since I can't tell you how often I will see a parent, or a athletes teammmate/friend staring at their phones in the finish area to see a time, rather than looking up the hill and actually watching their child or teamate/friend and how they're skiing
this has been a welcome change, we always had a family policy to not look until after the run was over but inevitably another parent would blurt out the results

have found clubs taking different approaches. loon hung paper results on the window outside timing office which led to a stampede. FSC announced the time results would be posted to monitors, kids huddled around the monitors and watched the results come in together, then most stuck around for awards

huge improvement from the old days of six place and up hitting the road the minute their run is over

Lindsey Vonn crashes in Crans Montana, Switzerland today. She started 6th, and was the 3rd crash. Race was canceled after her crash. The course workers had been battling to get enough new, soft snow off the course and the visibility was limited due to foggy conditions apparently. Took her about 5 minutes to get up out of the B-Net she ended up in, but she skied down to the finish, looking to be favoring her left knee/leg.

Hope she's OK with the Women's Olympic Downhill just over a week away.

Guessing the chief of the race, the Technical Delegate, is having some second guessing about the decision to start on time verses and delayed start or outright cancelation due to safety factors, especially for the speed of a downhill

Doesn't look good for her Olympic comeback, but I'm sure there will be marketing opportunities abound in a will she or wont she sense.

Watching the full race replay now..terrible. Teammate Jackie Wiles made it down (almost going out couple times) just before Lindsey and could hear her saying it was scary after her finish. As noted above, 3 DNF crashes (bibs 1, 3 & 6 (Lindsey) out of the first 6 skiers to cancel the race.

You could tell the remaining skiers and coaches wanted to pack it in before the race was called.

Breezy Johnson was up after Vonn and dropped some F-bombs on live TV when the cancellation came in as she wanted to race.

She issued an apology on her socials.

Vis and icy track conditions led to the cancelation.. It was very fast and they only had one training session on it as officials faught time to get it in race-ready condition. Apparently it wasn't enough.

Every Skier who went and finished, almost skied out.

They’re being fully vague about Vonn’s knee injury. Is that normal? I’ve gotta assume her leg’s been scanned.
