There are shady people everywhere. I've heard of people getting their skis stolen at Jackson Hole while having beers at the Mangy Moose..or taken right off of the side of a shuttle bus. In this world anything that is not superglued down is stolen. Even things as simple as pens..

Didn't one of the Rangers up at Tucks get his gear stolen last year?

If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere

Man, sorry to hear about your skis. I was at the River on Saturday. Had a truly amazing day.

As for locks, anyone have one they care to recommend? As Sunday River is my resort of choice, I would rather not have my skis walk off on me.

Sorry man....

Sorry about the skis. :(

Rarely do I even take my gear off anymore... I come get my ticket then put my stuff on, and when I'm tired I leave.. hardly ever stop for pee breaks or lunch therefore it minimizes the chance for my equipment being taken.
That's pretty much what I do. I use a lock but I'm still paranoid my stuff will go missing. I boot up at the car (at Sundown, anyway) and ski straight through until I'm done, almost never stopping to go in the lodge.

This may help with regards to scouring craigslist. You can search multiple locations at once. So instead of visting the different regions, you can serch a bunch at the same time. Hope you find them. Total bummer that people rip stuff off.

I almost walked off with a pair of skis this weekend from Mt Snow. They were the same as my husbands and on the rack right near mine - assumed they were his (no, we don't use locks - naively believing in the trust of the sport, I know). He had gone to get the truck so I grabbed the skis and started walking toward the lot with them - only to see HIS skis already on the truck when he pulled up. Oops! Put them back where I found them immediately.

OK,so what planet am I from?I never knew skis had serial numbers and I've had them for 35 years.

I'm with you - had no idea. Thanks for the info and the suggestion to photograph them.

The other problem with claiming it on your insurance is that it might not even be worth it.

I have a $1000 deductible on my homeowner's. By the time I do all the paperwork and correspondence for my "$1000" claim, it wouldn't even be worth it . . . Especially when they hike my rates. . . .

mistakes happen. in Park City Utah, we were enjoying an after ski drink at the base area and my friends 143 length skis went missing. first thing that goes through our minds is who would take a beat up pair of basic beginner skis? turns out there was a similar looking pair pretty close to them. fortunately, the person came back-it was an even smaller little girl.

another time, we stopped for lunch at one of the base areas in Mt Snow on a crowded saturday. my sisters rental skis go missing and we know because of the number on them. since all the skis look exactly the same, we have to wait til the end of the day to see what is left, sure enough there is 1 pair left that's just about the same length and brand as what my sister had. what sucks is that it torpedoed her afternoon waiting around.

now in the case of the original poster, obviously no one left a similar pair of Vokyls in the rack. given how precious they were to him, i;d suggest being a little more paranoid next time. hope you put enough miles on them to consider them used. a lock is not a bad investment all things considered.

I'll join the chorus of the the voices expressing the sympahty for your loss.

Could you (I'm addressing the original poster) post a picture of the skis and bindigs that got stolen?
It could really help all those who don't pay attention to the brands to possibly identify your skis.

I for instance, have no idea how your skis look like. It really would be good to have a picture.
