Date(s) Hiked: 11-18-06
Trails(s) Hiked: Main trail from CO rd 47 (don’t know name)
Total Distance: 5.4 miles
Difficulty: wicked moderate!
Conditions: Foggy at summit
Special Required Equipment:
Trip Report:
Slide is the tallest of the Catskills, standing at a beefy 4180 feet. The views are said to be the best too, no doubt helped by the peaks prominence. However it was all fogged in when I hit the summit so all I saw was white! Unlike the smaller Hunter mountain, Slide had virtually no snow. The grade was really easy: 1800 feet over 2.7 miles (Hunter was 2200 over 2.08). I encounters a lot of hikers coming up as I was coming down. The abundance of New York accents made itself very clear!
