From my experience, liftlines are a bitch at Smuggs every Saturday and Sunday until pretty much the middle of March. I would imagine with the cost of Stowe going up as much as it has, it will be even more busy with locals priced out of Stowe now. 3 doubles doesn't move a lot of people. Trails on Sterling will be a zoo, Madonna (especially the top) not so much. If there is great snow and you have time away from the youngin's, ask someone to show you the back/birthday bowls off of Sterling, that will take care of the crowded trail problem. I've never skied Morse.

Kinda answered it yourself. #1 familry resort, long weekend and maybe the wost lifts in the east, it will be busy. Great mountain, but lifts suck.

Smuggs has a cool vibe so I know why you want to go back---MLK was a zoo when I worked up there so I'd think not much has changed as far as that goes. You could PM djspookman---I know he taught up there as little as a couple years ago so he could give a better idea of what to expect.

Have fun!!!!

we might make it the week before and avoid it..I want to go in March (more chance of the whole mtn being open) but thats another story...we've never had any crowds at smuggs even on the weekends..its a true gem...i dont mind the lifts a bit, adds to the old school charm...and doensnt put that many folks on the hill

I plan to be in the area with my son's Boy Scout troop for the last weekend in February...good time to head to Smuggs? Another option would be Jay Peak, but we have very few advanced skiers/riders so I'm not sure if going to Jay Peak would be a good idea...

I would say historically, that is the best time to go there. Smuggs will offer more intermediate terrain than Jay, but I would also make the argument that Smuggs rivals Jay in terms of expert terrain as well. Probably a touch less on map acreage, but Smuggs has plenty of goods to keep any eastern expert skier happy for a weekend.
