2012 Trip Report #: 5
Report: Back so soon? Yep. Some friends of ours from my wife’s residency program, Brian and Beth, invited me to come along with them for a few hours. They’re new Snowbird passholders as well. I obliged. We got to Creekside just shy of 2pm and headed up Gadzoom for a warm-up down Lunch Run to Big Emma, and then Wilbere Cutoff to Wilbere Lift. They had only ridden Snowbird once that season, so they were chomping for some new terrain to try out. Off to Peruvian we went via Wilbere Ridge and Bass Highway.
First spin was down a soft Surf Turn Gully, aptly named because it is a natural half-pipe that sits at the top of Peruvian, alongside Primrose Path, Silver Fox, and Chip’s. The snow was very nice:
From here we headed down Chip’s to Hot Lip’s Gully, another natural halfpipe made by a creek. We hit it and I (wisely) bailed before the last section, which Brian told me was a combination of rocks, ice, and dirt. We drifted into Hubba Bubba Boulevard and Brian, like me, was drawn to Anderson’s Woods and suffered the same plight as I did the day before: coming face-to-face with a sudden sign line for the cliff area. He managed to find either Christmas Tree Chute or Hot Foot Gully and escaped, but he said there was no room for error! Beth and I headed down Chip’s, avoiding the icy sluice way that was the Middle Men’s Downhill. We stopped for a pic:
And from there we reunited with Brian and then hit a fun Phone 3 Shot:
We eased our way down the icy last stretch and then Brian and I headed back up, hitting a nice line in between Primrose Path and Silver Fox:
And then it was down Hully Gully to Anderson’s Hill for some more thin natural snow:
And then we decided to brave a thin Lower Primrose Path, where we shredded gnar and trees I think….
Our last run, with Beth, was down Chip’s Gully, and then we split up (unintentionally) with me hitting a chute in Cirque and then hightailing it down to Honey Hole, while Brian and Beth went down Chip’s. Brian and I met, but Beth had actually headed straight down. We kept looking for her, before finally just deciding to head to the bottom and back to the SUV where she was waiting.
A good few hours, but the snowmaking runs were really beat up and the natural snow runs were tracked out, but still nice. Snow coming soon?
