I had the opportunity to guide a 24 day ski mountaineering course outside of Haines, AK this summer. Skills involved alpine travel, glacier travel, crevasse rescue, anchor building, Avy I, etc all in the context of skiing big objectives in the Chilkat mountains. Didn't get much skiing action on film, but heres some scenery to get us pumped for an AWESOME 08-09 season.

What's all that white stuff on the ground? It looks so unfamiliar...

Looks like a good time! Thanks for the pics.

That is awesome!
How much does a course like this go for?
I already have mountaineering experience, so I was curious what kind of skiing related mountaineering skills were covered?

What kind of training have you been through?

In addition to the medical certs (WFR,Pro-CPR, etc...), I was given the chance to shadow several trips, sort of like an apprenticeship. An Avy II and a WEA cert doesn't hurt. Currently working on AMGA rock curriculum.

Cost varies from company to company. The 24 day from the pics was $3500 (heli, food, included)

As far as the skills covered, we cover a general mountaineering curriculum. However, we focused on big descents rather that gnarly ascents. We also introduced ski anchors, ski specific Avy curriculum, routefinding etc.

sooo fun.
