Looks good on paper. I especially like the last paragraph about the Fleischmanns connection. I would like to get up there this year to see what it "used to be like"

What I found interesting about that article is that all NYS ski areas cannot have more the 25 miles of trails by law. I though it was unique to Whiteface.

That's idiotic. That's like: let's write it into law that our ski resorts can't be competitive with resorts in other states! :-o

How are they going to get across, under or around rt28? This whole Belleayre resort project should be great for the Pine Hill, Big Indian, Fleischmanns communities.

....

How can a law like that be linked to the constitution of a state?

From the Whiteface AZ challenge

Sandy Caligiore : Whiteface is limited to 25 miles of terrain. Currently, we offer 18 miles. Lookout Mountain will create another 4.5 miles, leaving 2.5 thereafter*. There is no effort underway to amend the state constitution nor will there be.

I believe it has something to do with skier usage. If usage where to increase alot I believe the APA could grant a further expansion. It's complicated, I'm really not sure how it all works.

1) I highly doubt that there is a law in place that would prevent a ski resort operator from offering over 25 miles of trails if it were on private land. I have to imagine that the legislation you are referring to covers ski areas on state land only - i.e. "Forever Wild"

2) The question about what you would do about Rt. 28 with an expansion to Fleischmans takes the information WAY too literally. Extending the ski area to Fleischmans doesn't mean that the lifts and trails need to go to main street. Rather, just the environs. You could simply go down to the northern edge of Rt. 28 and the town is right across the road. Not sure where you would park there though.

Traffic on 28 is going to SUCK. Damn, it was bad coming back from Potter Bros. today, let alone with a whole resort on top of Belleayre. Good luck trying to turn off of 28A in Boiceville or at Winchell's corners in Shokan, where 28 is just a 2 lane road (and is so pretty much all the way up to Belleayre just before the hill).

Any luck selling your board?

Yeah, I managed to get rid of two old boards, bindings, and a pair of boots. Now I just gotta wait until my new Endeavor shows up in the mail (oh yeah, and for it to snow).

Gratz! :-D I'm still pondering putting more money down on these puppies.

How much??? How wide? The road to Belleayre..28..has plenty of passing zones and it's a pretty fast road so I don't see much of a problem..

I live there. Near Kingston it's 4 lanes, but past Woody towards Boiceville and Belleayre it can be tough not to wait forever to turn onto it. Weekdays it's no problem, but weekends and holidays its packed

Oh O.K. I've only driven to Belleayre from the thruway or from a shithole motel down the road..new and improved lodging would be a plus...the few local motels are expensive and kind of gross.

Thankfully our place is only 2 minutes up the road, but i can see this causing a lot of traffic. The bad which must be taken with the good.
