Date(s) Skied: Saturday February 26, 2012
Ski Area:Stratton Mountain, Vermont
Conditions: Powder, Machine Groomed Packed Powder
Trip Report:
Another great day at Stratton!! The 6+ inches of new snow that had fallen since Friday coupled with the strong winds blowing it into all the right places made for a fantastic day of tree skiing. We hit the hill around 8:30 and skied up until 2pm with just a short stop for coffee. Once again the woods at Stratton continue to impress!
The trails were a mix of wind scoured and soft packed powder and skied real nice but all the snow had blown into the woods and for the first time this season the trees where fantastic. Cover in the woods is good and getting better thanks to the hard crust left by the weeks of undesirable weather coating all the nasty's! One more good dump of snow and everything will be good to go without worry (still had to pick you way in a few spots).
Crowds were not too bad as most folks had already left after the vacation week. After 2 months of standing around on the hill coaching it feels great to get out and actually ski! Gotta get my ski legs back before heading to Sugarloaf for the AZ summit!
