Hey, was thinking of hitting the road after work on Friday to drive up to Stratton to ski on Saturday and Sunday. I'll be coming up from NYC. Think its worth the drive to go up there, or would something closer ski just as well? We stick to mostly greens and some blues, so nothing crazy.

Funny. Maybe I'll stop at Hunter and pick up some first timers and bring them with me too. ha.

But it the conditions.. What do you think?

All I can say is I had a nice day at Bromley Sun. Groomers were good with bumps & glades not only available but well covered.

Stratton should be skiing just as well.

I just spent a week at Stratton skiing Monday the 24th through Friday the 28th and the conditions were great. Plus they got more snow since then so it should be nice.

We were there last Sunday. Conditions very good. Well, groomed, good coverage, limited scratch. They have a lot of snow up there.

Since it will warm up just a bit i think it will help the conditions in the afternoon. The problem is - every night is a refreeze so trails could be a little hard for first tracks.

BTW this is not specific to Stratton, it is design to be a general statement for central VT or NH and south. North might stay cold enough.

If you live in NYC check out OVR East and Urban Sherpa bus trips...they go to Hunter, killington, Windham, etc..99 bucks for Killington which is almost free..and you don't have to drive...its the only way I get around the east most times..my jeep was falling apart from the abuse and its cheaper than driving...im hitting Killington Saturday and Hunter Sunday..which would be murder if you had to drive.

Agreed.Nothing wrong with hard groomers though I will probably pass on first chair and concentrate more effort on the ungroomed terrain as it softens. Sunday looks hard all day with temps struggling to get to freezing and cloudy.

Didn't get around to writing a report, but we were there mon - wed and conditions were pretty good. Fresh fast groomers in the morning, slopes stayed edge-able all day. Followed the sun a bit, skiing east to west. Got a few (maybe four?) inches up top on wednesday. Woods have excellent coverage and are skiable, even got fresh powder (couple inches) turns on the low-angle unmarked glades. They do such an incredible job with the grooming there.
