Resort or Ski Area: Sugarbush
Conditions: Granular/ICE
Trip Report:
We left Binghamton about one o'clock Monday afternoon. It started raining about halfway on our journey. We checked into the Golden Lion about six o'clock. We ran into two guys from Quebec at breakfast who had skied Monday and said it was pretty good but Mt. Ellen was a bit sketchy. We made it to the hill at about 9:15. Things were pretty soft in the morning with icy patches here and there. As the day wore on, things firmed up considerably. It wasn't terrible, but I couldn't help thinking how much fun this place must be with some friggin snow. I didn't ski any double blacks. I saw no one on Ripcord all day, it was open. Stein's was open, but I didn't ski it. It was probably pretty slick in the afternoon. We did ski one run on Birch Run in the morning. It was large glazed bumps. They closed the North Lynx Triple in the afternoon due to wind. I stopped into Allyn's Lodge a couple times during the day to warm up. I had the place to myself. There was a fire going with a comfy couch right in front, nice.
My son wasn't digging the firm conditions on his snowboard. I suggested he rent some skis. He scoffed at the suggestion. He hasn't skied in sixteen years. I left him at the hotel after lunch. I decided to save my two remaining vouchers for either later in the Winter, or the Spring. It was nice to spend some time with him despite the less than stellar skiing experience. I can't wait to ski here again under better circumstances. Must be fun in the Spring, many long steep trails.
Sleeper, made several laps here, snow stayed soft and loose here all day. Not really a glade, but the trees were fun to zip between.
Snowball
Jester, frozen groomed, skied well.
My private lodge
Does anyone know what this tank is used for? It is open on top. Does it hold snowmaking water?
Please snow, it's pretty sad when the highlight of your skiing season is five inches of fresh at Elk Mountain PA.
