Date(s) Skied: Jan 23-24
Resort or Ski Area: Sugarloaf
Conditions: PP
Trip Report: 2 very good days at Sugarloaf Saturday and Sunday. Could not ask for any better temps... 20's and zero wind. The warmest we have ever been at Sugarloaf in January.
Boy #2 and his team had a chance to work with his middle school ski coach and some CVA coaches for a couple of days so we headed up for the weekend - stayed at a teammates parents house on West Mountain. Very nice not to have to do the lodge shuffle!
Basically both days were great PP conditions in the morning and sort of scraped off by the afternoon on the groomers but I have seen much worse. We did not do anything remarkable, we just had a lot of fun. We were talking on the way home about what the ROTD was... and there was not really one. It just was all good but nothing really stood out.
I did check off one on the "bucket list". I dropped down White Nitro from Spillway crosscut. You do have to get your gumption up a bit as she be a bit on the steep side, but I did it first thing Sunday morning (with no one around) and it edged fine. In the end, it is just another steep trail but I can say I did it.
I did seem like the cover in spots was a bit thin in spots which was modestly surprising. Grass and rocks showing a bit on some of the popular groomers. Hopefully this messy weather coming Monday does not mess them up too much.
Here are a couple of pics. I had some smear on the lens - sorry about that!
Here is the backside of Saddleback seen from the top of Timberline. Oh wait, this is a Sugarloaf report. Sorry about that. ;-)
This was the top of Choker over on the King Pine area. This were the best moguls I found. I did good until a pretty steep pitch at the end.
Stubs glade off the Whiffletree chair. This skied pretty well.
Me skiing down Timberline. This trail was really pretty both days and had great soft snow.
