What's everyone doing for Summer exercise?

I purchased a Concept 2 rowing machine in March and have been using that almost daily. It is a killer workout and in the process have lost over 20 pounds and gone from a 26% Body Mass Index down to a 19.

Hard to beat that.

I've got a Concept 2 Rower too, it's an older B model but it still works great, althought I haven't used it in a while

Mostly I road bike and hike in the summer months. I've riden my bike the last four days 25-30 miles per day and typically ride 5-6 days week. Usually I go on longer rides on the weekends but I didn't have too much time this past weekend. I also hope to get some long hikes in over the next few weekends in Southern Vermont. I'll have to try the rower again since bike riding does nothing for my abs.

I up my running during the non-snow months to get ready to run in a couple of 1/2 marathons once the fall distance race schedule returns. Training for those takes up 3 days a week, and then I'll bike and/or Skier's Edge another 2 to 3 days a week. I tend to limit my upper body workouts to 12 oz. curls, or if I'm trying to "bulk up" I'll push my self to a 40oz. curl! ;)

Today I disassambled a crib to move it to another room and put it back together. Replaced and outlet in our bedroom, screw was stripped so it took a little extra effort. I'm going to go out and mow and rake the lawn. And once my kid wakes up I have to install a new ceiling fan in his room.

Oh actual workouts you say? My office has a little gym where I can lift weights and work out on a treadmill, stairclimber, bike, and rowing machine. When the weathers nice (and my knee feels ok) I head out for a run on the Charles. Weekends I just try to fit in some family hiking in the state forest or at Wachusett. Once the little one is older and over his morning naps we can take longer trips for hiking. Those morning and afternoon naps really kill any good travel. :-x

Hitting the gym regularly is the main goal. I'm on this 3-day workout routine and the problem is getting started on it. Once I'm on the routine, I'm pretty good with keeping up. Will try to strengthen the knees and drop about 10 pounds so I can be leaner for the hike up to Tucks next year.

Other than that, softball on Thursdays, sailing and kayaking on the river and a hike or two this summer. Does sunbathing count?

Well, I'm supposed to be on this regimen with this PhD Anthropologist from work...but I've been on the road so much that I've only participated once in three weeks. :<

But soon I'll be back in the swing of variuos running (change distances and speeds), circuit lifting, and hoops @ lunch.

Weekends are still crammed with chores around the house...so no biking or kayaking yet.

Nice thread Dozer. Congrats on the weight loss!

the more i think about it the more i realize i need to get my fat @$$ into shape. my knees for sure won't take another 100+ days of torture next year. i always wanted to ski 50 lbs lighter. i'm surrounded by premium food all summer (think lobster, filet, foie gras), and i really just need to eat three normal meals instead of trying little bits of bad stuff. less beer would be beneficial too...

Best thing that happened to me weight-loss wise(recently dropped 25+ lbs and still going for another 10-15) is my office got together and did our own version of "The Biggest Looser". Everyone that wanted to be involved pitched in $25 to make it a little more interesting ($200 to the winner), and having a group to help motivate you really helps(Plus the occasional trash talking and diet sabotage theories in and around the office is fun to)

I get bored with working out just for the sake of working out. I need to compete or set milestones. I plan on hiking a lot more this summer in hopes of getting all the whites (will take some time :p ). I also cycle a lot, will do a few centuries and maybe some training crits. Also I play ultimate frisbee and I am part of a kickball league (more for the beer then the kickball).

dont laugh about the kickball league, it is actually a blast. we have a sponsor bar, weekly newsletter with a summery of the previous weeks games, good times.

Folks in the building did something like that "Biggest Loser" competition at the start of the year. They had a pot and that went to the person who lost the most weight by the end of the semester (mid-May). Problem is the person who ran the competition e-mailed everyone in the buiding the results, including the before and after weights of the competitors! Let's just say that the participants were not too pleased with the "full disclosure."

Does softball count as exercise? If it does the I do a lot of it. I'm on 3 teams so I pretty much have at least 2 games a week.

Also bike a lot and swim.

I don't know; in my book, exercise generally requires putting down your beer for the duration of the activity. ;)

I'm hiking when I get decent weather, hoping to have my bike back from my friend the bike mechanic soon, and planning on making a habit of hitting the gym on evenings when the weather is not conducive to outdoor activity. My only problem right now is that I'm often torn between hiking for photos and hiking for exercise, and I go a lot slower when I'm doing the former (although I do also tend to carry more).

Oh, and I played my yearly lacrosse game last weekend. That was pleasantly surprising in that my legs held up better than I expected to the running (my lungs, unfortunately, were about as I expected)--I think that just demonstrates what skinning and skiing has helped with versus where I really need more work.
