Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River, ME

Conditions: Variable, low 40s, sunny, windy

Trip Report:

Day 2 of the season as Sunday River started midweek operations today. Their claims of "top to bottom" are now officially false as any skiable snow ends under the Barker chair. There's a patch or 2 after that, then it's a good 3-5 minute walk back to the bottom.

T2: Groomed overnight. Still has an incredible base. Some parts were nice LSGR while others were scraped, but never had to worry about thin cover on it. Was hoping some bumps would be left over from the weekend, but the LSGR at the top and bottom were enough to hold me over.

Upper Sunday Punch: A few nice areas, but a lot of thin, crappy areas. The choke point where the boxes are is about gone and you have to ski right along the rope to avoid hitting rocks. They were setting up the guns throughout the day on it so tomorrow should be better.

Lower Punch: Froze solid overnight. They ran one groomer down the side but most of it was dirt by midmorning. The rest was a breakable crust. The coverage lasts till the crossing with the Barker chair as noted above. Was easier just downloading today as there was no crowd... maybe 30-40 people total on the hill.

Overall, not as good as October, but some good snowmaking nights this week should get them back on track. I'll be home all week next week so I don't know if I'll get out. Furthest I'll go from home this early is Killington, but they'll need to be as good as last Thanksgiving to get me there. Would also be nice if Wachusett hits Black Friday for the 4th straight year but that isn't looking promising. If not, my next day out will probably be around the 1st of December at the Bush.

The top to bottom is really just been to Rocking chair a few times to keep the lift runing smoothly instead of down loading. When there is a line I walk. Good report. The guns are back on, It was 71 on my car thermometer when I left on Sunday.
