Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River

Conditions: PP Upper Mountain | Variable Lower Mountain

Trip Report: Ahhh... first day out with the family ripping it up on Sunday River. Very good day had by all.

Managed to get skiing by 8:30 AM. Not bad for a family of 4 after a 1.50 hour drive. Got to park in the 4th row of the Barker parking lot. We forgot how much 'stuff' is needed to get us all booted up an on the lift. But we are happy to get on the snow again.

Everything up high off Locke and Barker was good right from the get go. The bottom was a bit variable early. But we got a nice little snowstorm mid-morning which freshened everything up. Notably... Lazy River to Risky... T2 to Cascades and Upper and Lower Sunday Punch was a lot of fun.

After an early lunch we got over to South Ridge... the lower stuff over there was very variable / mash potatoes / slush... but skiable. We took a couple of runs down Escapade which was good top to bottom... good soft stuff on the sides.

Went back to Locke / Barker and hit Right Stuff. Starting to get a bit scraped off in the middle but the edges of the trial had nice softness to play with. Sunday Punch was pretty scrapped at this point (1pm) but T2 was good for a couple of more fun runs. The last run the fog really rolled in reducing visibility tremendously and we decided to call it a day at 2pm.

Overall - Excellent conditions for November. Much better than last year at this time. Sunday river recovered from the Snow / NCP very nicely. Well worth the trip.

New Year - New 'used' equipment. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED my Dynastar Legend 8000's. Much easier to turn and float then my old Rossi Vipers but could still rip em too. My wife and Boy #1 Spent the day on their Snowjam Skiboards (90CM). They are best for softer snow, but they really enjoyed them. Easy to do multiple on-snow 360's and they are looking forward to bouncing through the trees and moguls later this year.

Good writeup...

I got out the last hour and a half of today... things were scraped off pretty good in a lot of spots, but Lazy River was still great, as was Escapade... the fog was pretty thick in the middle third of the mountain. We made a few quick runs on Barker, moved over to North Peak, then came back to Barker for a quick run of Ecstacy to Cascades to the Crepe hut...

Playing Rock Band 2 in Brookside right now (sorry neighbors) waiting some more friends to show up.

See you all bright and early tomorrow :)
